Andre N. Sonner

Biography

Andre is currently Co-Principal Percussion of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, MI; Percussion Instructor for the Boston College Bands Program; Percussion Faculty at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, MI, and is the Percussion Specialist for Newton Public Schools, MA.  Recent engagements include performances with the Springfield, Jacksonville, Detroit, Boston Pro Arte, and Traverse Symphony Orchestras.  Additional performance highlights include the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, Interlochen Arts Academy Violin Institute, Chicago Jazz Festival, and performances at the Kennedy Center, in Washington DC.  He has been invited as a fellowship recipient to the Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen, and Chautauqua Music Festivals.  Chamber music experience includes collaborations and premieres by composers including Elliott Carter, Charles Wuorinen, Steve Reich, Gunther Schuller, John Harbison, and Mason Bates.

While completing both Masters Degree, and Graduate Performance Diploma, at the New England Conservatory of Music, he was the Zildjian Scholarship recipient, and served as Graduate Teaching Assistant.  Andre received his Bachelors of Music degree at Central Michigan University; graduating cum lade.  Primary instructors include J. William Hudgins, Frank Epstein, Dr. Andrew Spencer, and Guy Leslie.
