Data Science Major
The Data Science program is a blend of statistics, applied mathematics and computer science. Students in the major study such topics as statistical models, machine learning, data visualization and database systems.
Equipped to Thrive in Burgeoning Field
The data scientist uses data to describe real-world phenomena and Stonehill’s data science program provides graduates with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in this burgeoning field.
The data scientist is indeed a hybrid: part statistician, part mathematician and part computer scientist. Consequently, at Stonehill, the data science major is truly interdisciplinary, offered through the Computer Science Department and Mathematics Department.
Growing Field Leads to Increased Career Opportunities
A recent article in Forbes Magazine predicts that the “annual demand for the fast-growing new roles of data scientist, data developer and data engineer will reach nearly 700,000 openings by 2020.” As a result, students in the data science major will be competitive for a growing number of internships and employment opportunities.
